Oh, Cassius!

The musical partnership of John Torres and Meredith DiMenna first came together with the development of a Spanish language band, wherein they spent evenings drinking red wine and playing songs by everyone from Buena Vista Social Club and Marc Ribot to Devendra Banhart, deciphering the songs and building their own arrangements. But when John started strumming chords to accompany the retelling of a dream he had about a hangman, a song was born and with it their band, Oh, Cassius! Since then, the band has been the beneficiary of a hyperactive and strange muse who stayed with them from their humble beginnings through the 2014 release of their debut EP “On Such a Full Sea Are We Now Afloat”.

Described by Guitar World as “an EP of subtle genius,” the EP is the producing debut of their friend, Grammy-nominated producer/engineer, Brendan Muldowney.  It features an impressive roster of top musicians including bass player Michael Libramento (Grace Potter and the Nocturnals), drummer Chuck Palmer (RJD2), cellist Dave Eggar (Coldplay, Frank Ocean), drummer Zachary Alford (David Bowie, B52s) as well as a duet with Barsuk Records’ artists, Mates of State.
